A CARNIVAL DEDICATED TO GOOD TASTE
Good taste, quality and finesse for Carnival of Venice 2015, which opens to the triumph of flavours on the palate and the pleasure of fine food, of gastronomy and conviviality: “The most mouth-watering festival in the world!”, under the artistic direction of Davide Rampello.
The enhancement and strengthening of the excellences of the territory which, in the past editions has had the collaboration of important artistic figures including the set designers Angelo Lodi, Guerrino Lovato and Massimo Checchetto, the costumes of Atelier Nicolao and Francesco Briggi’s Atelier Longhi continues and this year will open to the theme of food and good taste.
Expo Milano 2015 is this year’s partner of the Venice Carnival, the title of which is “The most mouth-watering festival in the world!”. It is a Venetian tribute to the world exhibition “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, which since May 2015 has brought to international attention issues such as feeding the planet, food production and enhancing cultural traditions.
VENETIAN FESTIVAL ON THE WATER - VENICE CARNIVAL GRAND OPENING
The seduction of taste, celebrated in the heart of Venice, in a magical intertwining of water, earth and sky, officially opens the 2015 Venice Carnival, with “The magic banquet – A fable of food in Venice“, an extraordinary food and poetry-inspired show. The Cannaregio Canal is transformed into a real stage of water and air, where floating and flying structures stage the beauty of taste, the conviviality of being at the table, the light-heartedness and the wonder of art.

VENETIAN FESTIVAL ON THE WATER – PART TWO
The traditional festival of all Venetians that inaugurates the Carnival with the water procession of the Coordinamento Associazioni Remiere Voga alla Veneta starts this year with the melodies of the Suspended Pianist, Paolo Zanarella. After having rowed along the Grand Canal to Rio di Cannaregio, there will be a convivial moment by the opening of the food and wine stands by A.E.P.E., with cicheti, savoury Venetian specialties and traditional Carnival sweets par excellence: fritole and galani.
NIGHTS AT THE ARSENALE
The Venice Arsenale is set up in a magical environment, with theatre, music sensational fireworks on the water to transform it into the Carnival at the Arsenale. The stage setting is implemented with the collaboration of the Gran0 Teatro La Fenice and a programme of performances along the “Riva delle Maravegie” every evening. The year dedicated to taste could only bring to the stage “Il signore del baccalà “, an original theatrical show based on the novel “Alla larga da Venezia” (ed. Marsilio) with projections, video-mapping and drawings inspired by “1432, Il Veneziano che scoprì il baccalà” (ed. Hazard), on the history of stockfish (baccalà) and the mythical journey of its involuntary fifteenth-century discoverer, Piero Quirino. A firework display will bring the event to a close.
TEMPTATIONS DINNER SHOW
TEMPTATIONS, the official Dinner Show of the Carnival of Venice; a magical evening, with performances between the tables and shows all through the night, aerial acrobatics and ad hoc stage designs. Like food, shows are first and foremost inspirations and pleasures; the body is an expression and art is a tool: now it’s up to your pleasure to take advantage of a table of passions and flavours. FLIGHT OF THE EAGLE
Giusy Versace, Paralympic athlete and winner of the television program “Dancing with the stars”, performs the Flight of the Eagle. Originally from Calabria, Giusy Versace lost both her legs in a terrible car accident in 2005 during a business trip. An event that most definitely changed the course of her life. After more than a year and a half of tough training, Giusy managed to walk again and, since 2010, thanks to carbon prostheses, she began her challenge as a Paralympic sportswoman becoming the first Italian athlete to run with bilateral amputation (category T43). In 4 years Giusy has won 9 Italian titles, a European record in 2012 and several other national records for the 60, 100 and 200 metre races.
Festa delle Marie
The winners of the 2015 edition of the Festa delle Marie were elected at the Venice Casino. Irene Rizzi, 19 years old from Dese was elected Maria of the Year and Elisa Canese, 20 years old from Campalto won the Readers of the Gazzettino contest!
CULTURAL PROGRAM
Cultural events will be taking place in theatres, museums and city institutes. The programme organized by Stefano Karadjov is the result of the action of the many prestigious cultural activities that have been able to get online. Following in the footsteps of Expo, this year’s theme is food, in relation to Venetian civilization and art, music and theatre in the lagoon.
