“La Fenice” Theatre: Cavalchina Ball 2010 – The beauties and the beasts
On February 13th 2010, “La Fenice” Theatre will host at 8.30 p.m. the fourth edition of the Cavalchina Ball Party.
This edition dates back to the XVIII and XIX centuries, and it has been renewed in 2007 as it is considered the Venice Carnival Top Event.
Cavalchina is a charming and impressive private party where the leaders of the biggest organizations, born to support Venice and the big Drama Theatres, will be the main guests. Organizations like Save Venice, the Comité francais pour la sauvegarde de Venise and the AROP, Association pour le rayonnement de l’Opéra national de Paris will take part to the event.
The 2010 Cavalchina theme “The beauties and the beasts” will allow the guests to show freely any kind of fancy dresses, no matter what’s the Age.
And the Cavalchina Awards will be the new event to take place: it has been created for two different celebrities, a national and an international one, who have distinguished themselves for their innovative personal and artistic attitude. The prizes, designed by international artists and forged by the Murano Glass Masters, will represent an horse. Each of them will be produced in two copies, one for the winner and one to be kept at the Teatro La Fenice Collection and exposed in its “Extraordinary figures” section.
This year Ornella Vanoni and Graces Jones will be rewarded as the most impressive symbols of the artistic innovation thanks to their creativity and personal style.
At 8 p.m. the guests will be received in the Foyer where the appetizers will be served, while in the Main Hall, specially equipped with a mirror-like floor, a classic orchestra inspired by the St. Mark’s square big cafes ones, will play danceable pieces of the late XIX century.
The guests can also be introduced by the patroness of the Event, Yvonne Sciò, and walk down the stage of the theatre.
At 9.30 p.m. the first comic-acrobatic shows will take place in the Main Hall, with the performance of an artist followed by the pas de deux between the acrobat and the white horse, ridden by Mario Luraschi (this show has been performed also for the Maison Gianfranco Ferrè).
At 10.30 p.m. the buffet dinner will be served in the “Sale Apollinee” and in the “Sala Rossi”; while dining, a small orchestra will be playing in the Foyer and in the Sale Apollinee, and the Maniscalchi Orchestra will play in the Main Hall with danceable plays of the Thirties and Forties.
At 11.15 p.m. the second part of the show will be opened with a performance made by the actor Ennio Marchetto.
In the meantime, 200 young people will be free to get inside the theatre, and at midnight the Cavalchina Awards will be delivered.
At 12.30 a.m. the Main Hall will become a modern dancing hall till dawn.

Goldoni theatre will be protagonist of the 2010 Carnival with two pieces performed by different international companies and inspired both by the circus and the theatre as well.
The Black Theatre of Praga will perform Dreams (Thursday, February 11 at 8.30 p.m.).
Hotel Paradiso will be presented by the Familie Flöz company, and it is a humorous thriller where different artistic techniques and styles mix together. (Saturday, February 13 at 8.30 p.m.).
FOR KIDS: Every afternoon (11-16 February from 4.30 p.m.), the Foyer of the theatre will be open with free marionettes and burattini shows for kids.
DREAMS: The best of the Black Theatre of Praga follows the repertoire of Jiři Srnec from 1961 to today; in this way, the audience can appreciate the different techniques and sources of inspiration used by the artist and the company itself. “Dreams” comes from the most famous performances valued by the audience all over the world along a forty years career, like “The flying bicycle”, “Metaphors” and “The week of the dreams”. Living objects, mimes and actors will be shown on the stage while the magic will involve adults and children of all the ages.
Jiři Srnec has invented this technique, later reproduced all over the world.
Thanks to his strange way of performing his pieces, the Black theatre of Praga has impressed and astonished everybody.
HOTEL PARADISO: The way to the Heaven goes through the Hell!
Strange things happen in the quiet Paradise Hotel, a small mountain hotel led by an authoritarian old lady. Four stars stand on the main door and a source that assures recover from physic and psychic diseases. The son dreams the true love while fighting with his sister to keep the leadership of the hotel. The pianist is a kleptomaniac and the cooker likes to butcher not only the animals’ meat…when the first corpse appears, many strange events happen….a humorous thriller is taking place on the Alps, full of strong feelings and a little bit melancholic…..
